Abbey & Todd made their marriage federally official at the DC Courthouse on a Friday morning. Then they gathered together with a handful of their closest family members and spoke their vows in a circle under the columns of the National Arboretum. A bee may or may not have made it’s way up my dress mid-ceremony, but it was entirely worth it. Especially when each family member spoke a line from one of the most beautiful poems I know, Desiderata by Max Erhmann.

“Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself…  You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.”
